Scottish Mental Health First Aid

Build confidence to support mental health and wellbeing in your community or workplace.
Moray Wellbeing Hub delivers accredited Scottish Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) training, accredited by Public Health Scotland, to help people recognise distress, respond safely, and guide others toward the right support.

What You'll Learn

This practical two-day course provides the skills and understanding to:

  • Recognise when someone may need help and approach them appropriately

  • Listen and respond in a supportive and safe way

  • Offer initial help for depression, anxiety, self-harm and psychosis

  • Understand the impact of alcohol, drugs and stress on mental health

  • Build confidence to talk about suicide and support recovery

  • Protect your own well-being while helping others

  • The knowledge and understanding developed in this course help to reduce stigma and give you the confidence to approach someone in distress.

The course is not therapy and does not train you to become a mental-health professional.
It offers evidence-based, practical tools for everyday life and work.
